Inhumas is situated approximately 35 km northwest of Goiânia. Its location gives it a close connection with the economic and urban development of the Goiânia metropolitan area while retaining the characteristics of a smaller regional city.

The municipality is part of Brazil’s Central-West Region, an area known for agriculture, cattle ranching and rapidly developing urban centres.

History

The settlement of Inhumas developed during the expansion of agriculture and cattle raising in Goiás. The region’s development was closely connected to the movement of settlers into the interior of the state and the establishment of farms and rural communities.

The municipality was officially established in the early 20th century and gradually developed into an important local commercial and agricultural centre.

The name Inhumas is associated with the anhuma, a distinctive South American bird found in wetland and river environments.
